Yes, I tried.
At first I commented out both

##makefilesystem in freshInstall.sh :
mkfs.ext4 -b 65536 -m 0 ${disk}4

##zeroing in partitionDisk.sh :
dd if=/dev/zero of=${disk}4 bs=1M count=32

then tried only with zeroing in partitionDisk.sh . In both cases the debrick didn't work. Only executing the original scripts made it come back.

One note: after debricking using the latest fw, I tried to run a "Fake" update and it failed; I had to execute a complete factory reset from the WD UI to gain back the update feature.
